ABSTRACT

During the COVID-19 pandemic, as Indonesia mobilized to deliver vaccines to the population, an unexpected phenomenon occurred: political parties became directly involved in the vaccine delivery effort. In this article, we draw on online reports and interviews to demonstrate that these campaigns acted as an extension of the patronage politics that dominate the country's political arena. The involvement of political parties had little effect on the national vaccination effort, as parties delivered a relatively small number of vaccines and often targeted areas that already had high coverage. Instead, parties and politicians used these events to strengthen links with constituents and supporters. We identify three main pathways that allowed political parties to access the vaccines: lobbying by members of the national legislature's health commission;through local governments;and by direct executive government access to the national Ministry of Health. This "hijacking" of a national policy for clientelistic purposes provides insight into the presence of intra-party coordination of patronage goods but also demonstrates the personalization and fragmentation of patronage distribution highlighted in the existing literature. We conclude by discussing the implications of our findings for the quality of public healthcare and other services in Indonesia.

ABSTRACT

The expansion of the COVID-19 pandemic from 2019 to 2021 has weakened the performance of critical industries in Indonesia. Aglaonema as one of the ornamental plants had a surge in demand as part of the farming industry until its height in 2020. Currently, the response to the demand for ornamental plants has declined considerably. This study discussed the revenue and income of Agla-onema farming during two periods, at height and the post of the COVID-19 pandemic, and analyzed the distribution of inputs data as information related to the allocation of production. The respondents comprised 32 active farmers from the Aglaonema commu-nity (ASA) in Depok City, who produced 10 varieties of premium Aglaonema, namely Super Pink, Suksom Jaipong, Khanza, Lotus Delight, Audrey, Tiara, Widuri, Adelia, Bidadari, and Pride of Sumatra. The data was collected from June to November 2022 using the recall method to tabulate data in 2020 (the year of the height of COVID-19 pandemic) and 2022 (the year of the post COVID-19 pandemic). The R/C ratio was used as a profit indicator by considering the implicit and explicit costs. The findings revealed that Aglaonema farming in Depok City was highly profitable at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, evidenced by an R/C ratio of 7.50. The R/C ratio has changed in 2022 value to 1.79, indicating a decline in farming profitability. Suppose the farmers pay the implicit costs in the current situation, the farming becomes less profitable as shown by the return value which is just slightly above the break-even point.

ABSTRACT

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has pushed many institutions, regardless of whether they are ready or not, to adapt work from home (WFH) practices. This study aims to evaluate how work stress, workload, work-life balance, and work motivation affect millennials' intention to leave their jobs during work from home implementation. There were 224 millennial respondents in the Greater Jakarta Area who experienced WFH set-ups because of the COVID-19 outbreak that filled out the questionnaires. The PLS-based SEM technique was then used to examine the data that had been obtained. The results showed a significant effect from working from home on workload, work stress, work-life balance, and motivation. Additionally, it found that workload and work stress have significant effects on the turnover intention. Work-life balance and work motivation, according to the results, have no significant effects on turnover intention. As a result, management should consider the workload and work stress while evaluating the effectiveness of the use of the type of assignment. More factors that influence turnover intentions need to be considered in future studies. © 2023, Editura Lumen. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Indonesia has experienced the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of people who have been confirmed positive has now approached 5, 505, 000 with the number of deaths approaching 148, 000 people per February 26, 2022. About 52% out of more than 208 million targeted people had completed the 2nd vaccination. Our paper aims to provide detailed reporting and analyses of the present rapid responses to COVID-19 up to the end of February 2022 in Indonesia. We particularly highlight responses taken by the governments, non-government organizations, and the community. We outline gaps and limitations of Indonesia's responses to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic and the success stories to overcoming it. We present some strategies and recommendations toward more rapid, effective, and comprehensive current responses as well as for post-epidemic. © TheEditor(s) (ifapplicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021, 2022.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the spectrum of ocular characteristics and viral presence in the conjunctival swab of patients with COVID-19. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, fifty-three patients were recruited from two COVID-19 referral hospitals in Jakarta (Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and Persahabatan Hospital) from July 2020 to March 2021. The inclusion criteria were patients who were suspected of or confirmed cases of COVID-19 with or without ocular symptoms. Demographic data, history of COVID-19 exposure, underlying medical condition, systemic symptoms, ocular symptoms, supporting laboratory results, reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) of naso-oropharyngeal (NOP) swab and conjunctival swab were collected. RESULTS: Fifty-three patients who were suspected, probable or confirmed cases of Covid-19 were included. Forty-six out of 53 patients (86.79%) tested positive for either Covid-19 antibody rapid test or naso-oropharyngeal (NOP) swab. Forty-two patients tested positive for NOP swab. Fourteen out of 42 patients (33.33%) experienced symptoms of ocular infection including red eye, epiphora, itchy eyes, and eye discharge. None of these patients were tested positive for conjunctival swab. Two out of 42 patients (4.76%), who were tested positive for conjunctival swab, did not experience any ocular symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: Establishing the relationship between Covid-19 infection, ocular symptoms, and presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus on the ocular surface proves to be challenging. In Covid-19 patients, ocular symptoms did not warrant a positive conjunctival swab result. On the contrary, a patient without ocular symptoms can also have detectable presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus on the ocular surface.

ABSTRACT

Some diseases today have a rapid and dangerous rate of transmission. This causes doctors or medical personnel have a high risk of transmission. It caused the need for a system that can monitor the patient's condition in order to minimize the risk of contacting medical personnel. The research aims to design and build an integrated IoT-based patient monitoring system that provided information about the patient's temperature, infusion fluid level, and heart rate. This system is equipped with a database of patient conditions and can be accessed by web-based users. This system is integrated between hardware, software, and IoT system, which allows users to access data (based on their respective roles) from various places, because they can access it via the internet. The research stages are hardware and software design, design implementation, software embedded system development, IoT design, system integration, and web development that is integrated with IoT. The system has been running well and patient's information can be accessed by the user. This system is also equipped with indicators of normal and abnormal conditions, so that medical personnel can anticipate early if there are conditions that are dangerous for patients. Even though Covid cases have decreased, technology is still needed, especially to be used to monitor the condition of patients who require intensive monitoring. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Introduction Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) of the COVID-19 vaccine is one of the important considerations, especially in patients with autoimmunity. This study aims to compare the number of CoronaVac AEFIs in women with and without autoimmunity. Methodology This is a retrospective cohort study with an unpaired comparative analytic design with a retrospective cohort method. We recruited 602 volunteers, 182 women with autoimmunity and 420 without autoimmunity. We included women who received the CoronaVac vaccine, aged 17–65 years. Data were analyzed using the chi-square or fisher exact method as an alternative. Results We found a generally increased risk for AEFI in women with autoimmunity (RR = 1.179;95% CI 1.059–1.313;p = 0.007) compared to women without autoimmunity, especially for systemic (RR = 1.1271;95% CI 1.045–1.545;p = 0.025), allergic (RR = 2.052;95% CI 1.070–3.932;p = 0.045), fever (RR = 2.163 95%;CI 1.093–4.282;p = 0.039), fatigue (RR = 2.182 95%;CI 1.558–3.056;p = 0.001), and headache (RR = 1.619 95%;CI 1.164–2.251;p = 0.006). On the other hand, we found no increased risk for the overall severity of AEFI (RR = 0.851 95% CI;0.655–1.105;p = 0.256). We also found a relapse of autoimmune condition in 10.4% (n = 19) after CoronaVac vaccination. Conclusions There is an increased risk of AEFI after CoronaVac vaccination in women with autoimmunity compared to those without the condition. Although the severity of AEFIs and risk of autoimmune relapse were relatively low.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) increases rapidly and causes mortality in all groups, including children. However, the predictive risk factors of mortality among children remain inconclusive. This study aimed to analyse the predictors related to mortality among children with COVID-19. Methods: Secondary data analysis was conducted using provincial COVID-19 data from April 2020 to May 2021. We selected 6441 children under age 18 to be included in this study. Chi-square and binary logistic regression were used to evaluate the predictors of mortality in children with COVID-19. Results: This study showed that the prevalence of children who died COVID-19 was 2.7%. Age, case definition, treatment status, severity of illness, and travel history had a significant relationship with survival status in children with COVID-19. As the increasing age, the risk of death with COVID-19 will decrease [AOR=0.94; CI 95%=0.91-0.97]. Otherwise, suspected status [AOR=2.12; 95% CI=1.48-3.04], hospitalization with ventilators [AOR=22.25; 95% CI=5.73-86.42], severe illness [AOR=46.76; 95% CI=21.69-100.80], and travel history [AOR=1.78; 95% CI=1.22-2.60] were significantly related with an increased risk of death in children with COVID-19. Discussion: Severe illness in children was the strongest predictor of mortality. Disease prevention and health promotion programs are the key to preventing hospitalizations in children and decreasing the mortality rate.

ABSTRACT

Serious game has been a very potential tool for learning, especially for online learning in the Covid 19 pandemic era. Using interactivity and experience as the main advantage, serious games offer a fun way to learn that can enhance the understanding of the learning material. However, the design of the serious game is difficult due to the different nature between learning and gaming. Game activity is one of the game elements that is difficult to develop. Appreciative serious game is the type of serious game that is using Appreciative Learning concept to design the activity. Appreciative serious game has four main stages, namely Discovery, Dream, Design and Destiny. Design stage is one of the most difficult stages, because it has the most activities compared to other stage, thus it should maintain the balance between boredom and frustration. Item often only viewed as a gimmick, even though it has potential to support the balance. This research is using fuzzy logic to produce adaptive item behavior, called fuzzy adaptive items. The fuzzy adaptive item takes life point and the number of errors, which resulted in the dynamic frequency of appearing relevant items. The results shows that items appear dynamically according to player performance. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: COVID-19 is an emerging infectious disease that remains to be further investigated. Case report: Here, we describe a case of COVID-19 in an octogenarian woman with comorbidities who slowly recovered during hospitalization, but died due to sudden cardiac death after 2 weeks of hospitalization. Her nasopharyngeal and anal swabs returned positive for SARS-CoV-2 by RT-PCR on day 7 of hospitalization. The NGS showed possible intraindividual evolution of virus. The sample from the nasopharyngeal swab yielded a B.1470 variant classified as clade GH. This variant showed mutation in the spike gene D614G; N gene; NS3 gene; NSP2 gene and NSP12 gene. The sample from the anal swab showed similar mutation but with additional point mutation in spike gene S12F and was classified as B.1.465 variant. Conclusions: The possibility of the gastrointestinal tract that served as reservoir for virus mutation accumulation should also be considered and the potential impact of viral fecal transmission in the environment should be further investigated.

ABSTRACT

Empowering children to study at home with diverse parenting patterns during the Covid-19 pandemic is a challenging experience for parents of elementary school students. This study aims to determine changes in parenting patterns used by parents of elementary school students after undergoing online learning of parenting patterns with the method of sharing experiences. This study uses the concurrent embedded research method where both qualitative and quantitative data are being collected at the same time. The descriptive qualitative method is embedded within the quantitative method, with a pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. Data collection techniques used questionnaires, observations, and interviews with Chi-Square non-parametric inferential statistical analysis techniques and descriptive qualitative. The research setting was online learning, which was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic, where parents of elementary school students were more likely to accompany their children to study at home. The results showed that online learning with parenting experience-sharing methods can change the understanding of parenting patterns of students whose parents were initially more dominant in the permissive type, to become more dominant in the authoritative type. This study's findings imply that future research would benefit from examining the differential, nonlinear, and interactive components of authoritative parenting can affect school achievement.
